Hunter’s Marlborough Vintage Report 2025
19/05/25
As harvest activity settles here at Hunter’s Wines, we are delighted to report on the 2025 vintage in Marlborough, which is shaping up to be a very good year. The sense of optimism in the winery is palpable, and we know many of our valued customers are already looking forward to the release of the first wines.
The Growing Season
Marlborough experienced generally favourable conditions throughout the 2024-2025 growing season. Key periods like flowering and fruit set progressed well, leading into a summer that provided great sunshine for ripening. Crucially, the late summer and early autumn offered the dry conditions and desirable diurnal temperature shifts (warm days and cool nights) that Marlborough is renowned for. This allowed the grapes to reach optimal flavour development and ripeness while retaining balancing acidity – hallmarks of quality Hunter’s.
Harvest & Grape Quality
Harvest 2025 proceeded smoothly, allowing us to pick blocks at their ideal ripeness. Fruit quality looks strong across the board. Our core varieties, particularly Sauvignon Blanc, show vibrant aromatics and excellent concentration.
We are very happy with the results of our new Waihopai Valley vineyard. The Pinot Noir harvested from this site has met all our expectations, displaying beautiful colour, flavour intensity and excellent balance.
Looking Ahead
While it's still early days, with the wines beginning their journey in the cellar, the potential of the 2025 vintage is clear. It builds encouragingly on the quality seen in the 2024 vintage, and we anticipate making wines that express our vineyards' unique terroir.
We look forward to the release of these 2025 wines and can’t wait to share them with you.
Conclusion
In summary, Vintage 2025 in Marlborough has been very kind to us at Hunter’s. Favourable weather, excellent fruit quality across varieties, and particularly exciting results from our new Vineyard point towards a vintage that will deliver wines of character. We thank you for your continued interest and look forward to sharing the results of Vintage 2025.
