19 Offshoot Pinot Noir
This new range allows the younger generation of Hunter's to experiment with new techniques and presentation.
This wine is a bit of fun. It is designed to be a fresh, fruit forward wine with lot’s of character. It is ready to drink now and can even go in the fridge.
The nose shows cherry, beetroot and dates. The palate is soft, juicy and rich. The wine is balanced by a herbal, stemmy character.

Grapes were grown at our Home Block on Rapaura Road. The vines are over 25 years old and 10/5 clone, one of the original Pinot Noir clones imported to New Zealand. This clone has widely been discarded for red wine production however we are seeing wines of exceptional quality as the vines get older.
The fruit was handpicked and partially destemmed before being fermented in an open top fermenter. 40% whole clusters were used in the ferment to cut through the richness of the clone.
The wine was pressed off and aged in barrel for three months. Sulphur was added to the wine just before bottling.

Lovely depth of ripe fruit and, while youthful, there is already good integration and balance. Vibrant and very drinkable at a smart price."
4 Stars - Top Tastes - Simon Woods "Perhaps seen as a NZ Beaujolais alternative, this is light and charming, but has some serious Pinot chops. Malolactic fermentation, a portion of whole bunches and low cropping vines has resulted in a wine of considerable finesse and depth of flavour, while maintaining a light, breezy, summery style. Hunter’s suggest lightly chilling this before drinking, although it is lovely at room temperature as well."
