HOW LONG HAVE YOU WORKED AT HUNTERS AND IN WHAT ROLE?

Since 1991 as Export & National Sales Manager and then as General Manager with a wider role encompassing wine allocations and costings, licences and consents, marketing visits offshore and many more tasks that are put on my plate!

CAN YOU PLEASE EXPLAIN BRIEFLY WHAT THE ROLE OF THE GENERAL MANAGER INVOLVES?

Oversee the smooth running of the business AKA odd jobs person but more importantly looking after the well- being of staff, co-ordinating employment reviews, overseeing wine allocations and yearly costings, being a wise counsel for younger staff members.

WHAT MADE YOU PURSUE A CAREER IN THE WINE INDUSTRY?

A taste for wine which developed in the mid 70’s in South Australia and an investment in a winery at Waikerie in South Australia. My wife’s family had a vineyard in South Australia. It seemed a given that when Jane put out an SOS for help in the wine business that we moved over to lend a helping hand and became totally immersed in the business.

WHAT DO YOU PARTICULARLY LIKE ABOUT YOUR JOB AT HUNTERS?

Working with Jane and seeing the business grow and become ever more successful over the last 30 years. Travelling and meeting our overseas customers and taking Hunter’s to the wider world.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOUITE TIME OF YEAR AND WHY?

August/September each year tasting the new vintage wines and seeing how the wines are developing in style from year to year.

 WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE HUNTERS WINE?

2020 Hunter’s Pinot Noir – it could be a truly exceptional wine!
